Profol injection is an anesthetic and a sedative used on patients to help them stay calm, relax, and sleep before or during the surgery and for various medical purposes.

John B. Glen, a British Veterinarian, made Profol after 13 years of research. The clinical research of this product started in 1977 and launched in 1986 for clinical use.

Primary Uses

• Inducing general anesthesia during surgeries and other medical procedures.
• To keep the patients unconscious and pain-free during surgery.

Side Effects

Contact your doctor immediately if:

• Pain at the injection site is common after taking it.

Profol infusion syndrome (PIS).

• If an individual uses Profol injection for an extended period of time without the guidance of your doctor or in patients that are extremely ill and on Profol injections for a long time then they can experience Profol infusion syndrome (PIS). In this syndrome, individuals may experience; fatty liver, metabolic acidosis, Bradycardia, Rhabdomyolysis kidney, heart failure, and other life-threatening illnesses and death.

• Used to induce RSI and general anesthesia.

Things to Know Before Using Profol Injection 

Store it:

• Do not freeze the product
• Store at 20ºC to 25ºC 
• Shake it well before use 

Do not use the drug if you find the following things:

• The product is leaking from the container.
• Excessive aggregation.
• Large droplets are visible in the container.
• Phase separation.
• Suspected contamination.

Be careful about:

• During infusion, the recommended aseptic technique must be maintained. Contamination of the product can cause infection/sepsis, fever, other serious diseases, and death of the patient.
• To avoid risks of transmission of blood-borne pathogens like Hepatitis B, C, and HIV), each injection must be used on a single patient
• With 70% isopropyl alcohol, The rubber stopper of the drug should be disinfected.
• Use a sterile syringe

• After using the recommended dose, discard the remaining portion and do not use it after 12 hours of opening the product.
